DICOTA-LSF PARTNERSHIP DICOTA has a memorandum of understanding with LSF to support implementation of mutually-beneficial strategic objectives. As a legal service organization, with significant expertise in advocacy, LSF helps DICOTA be the "boots on the ground", to support on-the-ground advocacy efforts to foster a conducive legal, regulatory, and policy environment for the Tanzanian diaspora. DICOTA operates a standing Diaspora Policy Committee (DPC) which works with diaspora to coordinate, mobilize, and monitor efforts, to promote an enabling policy environment for the Tanzanian diaspora and on matters that touch on different sectors, including land, immigration, finance, and investment, among others. In 2024, LSF conducted engaged policy makers involved in the Written Law (Miscellaneous Amendments) (No.2-4) bill review process to sensitize and clarify on diaspora’s inputs to the proposed amendments. This included members of two Permanent Parliamentary Standing Committees namely the (a) Governance, Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee and (2) Land, Natural resources, and Tourism Committee. LSF also engaged with technical senior legal officers from the Ministry of Land Housing and Urban Development; held a separate caucus meeting with the Assistant’s Chief Parliamentary Draftsman from the office of the Attorney General; Head of Parliament Committees and held a consultative meeting with the deputy minister from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East Africa Cooperation. Also, LSF and DICOTA convened multiple webinars to improve awareness and understanding among diaspora on the country’s policy process and the proposed amendments to the Land and Immigration Acts. In 2024, DICOTA raised US$1,805 for LSF during the CTDA24, equating to helping 36 women with legal aid. |
